For families
Finding a safe place for someone you love
A lot of our residents came to us because a family member picked up the phone. We have four homes for men and the Parkhouse for female/female-identifying residents. Here's how to choose a sober living home with confidence.

You can make the call
You don't need your loved one on the line to ask questions. Call us, tell us what's going on, and we'll explain how our homes work, whether we have space and what the next step could look like.
Families are welcome on tours. Seeing the house and meeting the manager is the best way to know whether it's somewhere you'd feel good about your person living.
With your loved one's permission, we're glad to keep you in the loop once they move in.
What to look for in a sober living home
Not every sober living is run well. As one resident put it, finding a safe house can feel like searching through “a sea of sketchy and money minded houses.” Signs of a good one:
- Rules that are written down, explained before move-in and enforced for everyone
- Regular, random drug and alcohol testing
- A curfew and expectations about work, school or volunteering
- Real involvement in a recovery program, not just a bed
- A clean, well-maintained house with a manager who's present
- Straight answers about cost, what's included and what happens if someone relapses
Questions to ask any sober home
- What are the house rules, and what happens when someone breaks one?
- How often do you drug test, and who does it?
- Who manages the house day to day?
- What does it cost, and what's included?
- Is the home certified by a recovery residence organization?
- Can we tour before deciding?
Taking care of yourself
Loving someone in early recovery is exhausting. Support groups like Al-Anon and Nar-Anon exist for exactly this, and many families find them as helpful as their loved one finds the 12 steps.
For free, confidential treatment referrals any time, the SAMHSA National Helpline is at 1-800-662-4357. If someone is in danger, call 911. For a mental health or substance use crisis, call or text 988.
